Cornwall remains holidaymakers’ favourite destination for stays of seven-nights or longer in the UK, according to Hoseasons.
The domestic self-catering specialist said Cornwall attracted more seven, 10 and 14 night bookings this year than anywhere else in Britain, including Devon, Yorkshire, The Lake District and Norfolk.
And already, the operator’s bookings for Cornwall for next year are up by 11% up for next year compared to the same time a year ago for 2024.
The operator made the assertion a month after revealing Devon had overtaken Cornwall as the most popular short break destination overall due to its shorter drive time.
General manager Gemma Brown said she was confident Cornwall would remain the best-selling destination for longer trips next year.
She said: “This just goes to show the enduring appeal of Cornwall as ‘the’ Great British holiday hotspot. People may be starting to consider other options for shorter breaks but those with a bit of extra time still find it hard to resist everything the county has to offer.
“The journey might be that bit longer for most of us, but going the extra mile is definitely worth the trip once you get there.”
Newquay is currently the most popular location for a longer staycation in Cornwall next year followed by Bude, Helston and Lizard Peninsula, Looe and St Ives.
The operator said the overall trend for short breaks closer to home was evident in its bookings, with a 21% year on year hike in the number of Cornish holidays being booked by people living in Cornwall.
More than 38% of Hoseaons’ customers from Cornwall chose a break in the county over the last 12 months.
The company’s research earlier this year suggested an emerging ‘holiday snacking’ trend of taking more frequent, shorter breaks.
The proportion of two to five nights sold by the operator has increased from two thirds to more than three quarters of sales over the last decade.
