The Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL) has issued a statement to reassure the trade and travellers amid the destination’s state of emergency.
Gang-related violence triggered the emergency declaration in Trinidad and Tobago on December 30.
A statement from TTAL said Tobago “remains a welcoming destination for travellers”, adding that the state of emergency (SOE) is to “ensure the continued safety and well-being of all residents and visitors”.
“While this measure underscores a proactive commitment to security, the enchanting island of Tobago remains as welcoming as ever, with its tourism and business activities operating seamlessly,” said the TTAL statement.
“Tobago continues to be a haven for travellers seeking relaxation, adventure, and cultural experiences.
“The ANR Robinson International Airport remains fully operational, as do port facilities accommodating cruise ships and inter-island ferry services.
“Hotels, beach facilities, tours and beloved attractions are open and ready to offer visitors the warm hospitality and unforgettable experiences for which Tobago is renowned.”
TTAL said the SOE is a “precautionary step” designed to address “specific concerns” while maintaining the “vibrant and peaceful atmosphere that defines our island”.
“Daily life on Tobago carries on uninterrupted, and we encourage residents and visitors alike to enjoy the island’s offerings while remaining mindful of local authorities’ guidance,” it added.
Visitors are advised to carry a valid form of identification during their stay and updates will be provided on TTAL’s social media pages and website.
